Research and development

Regarding research projects there is no central theory nor a predominant method practiced within the research group of General didactics. On the contrary, we see the diversity and multiplicity of research approaches exercised in our group as a strength that helps us to advance the existing knowledge in our field.

The research approaches practiced in our group include for example (critical) hermeneutics, phenomenology, ethnography and critical realism.

Ongoing research

There are several ongoing projects within the research environment of General didactics. One of those is the project on "Bildung and teacher training" (Bildning och lärarutbildning) which is expected to go on until the end of 2015.

There is also a project financed by Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) on compulsory school education in ethics, "What may be learnt in ethics?", in which Annika Lilja is a member until year 2017.

Ongoing research is also conducted in the form of PhD projects by our doctoral students.

Moreover, Jörgen Dimenäs is currently leading an action research project that involves the upper secondary school of Angered and is therefore called the “The model of Angered” (Angeredsmodellen). Through systematic cooperation and collaboration between the above mentioned school and the University of Gothenburg, this project focuses on the exploration and evaluation of new ways for enabling student learning and meeting pupils’ needs in school.

Brobryggaren

Another important project led by Jörgen Dimenäs is “The bridge builder” (“Brobyggaren”) that brings together different parties involved in the process of teacher education in order to train teachers who can support students to develop an ability to use the knowledge of mathematics, science and technology to ask questions, draw conclusions and participate in the decision-making process concerning human activity in the society.
