Educational Assessment

The Department of Pedagogical, Curricular and Professional Studies is strongly orientated towards assessment and documentation of educational results. Both with regard to different subject areas in the school system and with regard to teacher education. This orientation is an important feature of the department’s teaching, research and outreach to society at large.

Fields of interests

One of the main fields of interest focuses on of how different forms of assessment pertains to different kinds of subject matter studies where formative assessment (based on teacher questions, learner feedback, self- and peer assessment etc) as well as more summative assessments (e.g. with the help of national tests) are used.

The other main line in this specialization focuses on of how different forms of documentation are designed and employed in schools as well as in certain other sectors of society. Individual developmental/educational plans for students, with written comments and suggested remedial measures, represent one example. Other examples are formal evidence of grades awarded, explication of the bases of grading practices, concrete test results, and teachers’ grading conferences.

Classroom based profile

Overall, the department has a classroom based profile where the development of different forms of support for teachers’ professional knowledge of assessment and documentation procedures are central but also critically researched.
