Learning Study

Learning Study Cycle

A Learning study is a model for teacher collaboration with the aim to improve students’ learning.

In a learning study teachers are able to see other teachers teach the same content. A Learning study starts with that a group of teachers chose an object of learning, a specific content to be taught. The teachers plan a lesson together, ‘the first lesson’. One of the teachers conducts the lesson in his or her class and the lesson it is videotaped. The students’ knowledge are tested some weeks before and a few days after the lesson. The knowledge about the students’ learning after the ‘first lesson’ is used by the teachers to plan the ‘second lesson’. The teachers watch the video recorded lesson and revise the lesson. The revised lesson is conducted with a new teacher and a new group of students. This cyclic process continues until three or four lessons have been implemented, analysed and revised.
