Mathematics education

The mathematics education group at the Department of Pedagogical, Curricular and Professional Studies comprises about 25 active teachers, researchers and doctoral students. Education is offered within all branches of teacher education, yet courses in mathematics education are also offered at the advanced and doctoral levels and as contract education.

Research

Several research areas within the field of mathematics education are represented. The research concerns, for example, information and communication technology, learning studies, assessment and diagnostics, curriculum theory, classroom interaction and the area that borders both mathematics education and philosophy of mathematics. The research and development efforts are relevant to all levels of the educational system, from pre-school to the teacher education programme.

Cooperation

Several members of the group cooperate with other higher education institutions both nationally and internationally. The collaboration concerns both education and research. Moreover, both research and development work are conducted upon request from external stakeholders, such as the EU, municipalities and the Swedish National Agency for Education.
